The City of Forest City, like many government agencies, has had to deal with changing priorities and shrinking budgets.

The police department has been able to supplement needed equipment and training because of the generous donations of the John K & Luise V Hanson Foundation and the Winnebago Foundations. The John K & Luise V Hanson Foundation recent donations inlcude thousands of dollars for the purchase of vehicle cameras. Because of Iowa Supreme Court rulings, these cameras are a necessity for court, as well as helping to protect police employees and the public.

In 2015, a donation by the Hanson Foundation has allowed the police department to purchase a police K-9. The department's previous experience with a K-9 was very successful with great public support.

The Winnebago Industries Foundation has also helped the police department with funds for officer training and for the purchases of equipment. Both foundations have been strong supporters of the police department, public safety agencies, and our community at large for decades.

Over the years Manufacturer's Bank & Trust in Forest City has been a strong supporter of public safety within our community. MBT has also donated funds to help the police reserves obtain equipment and the helped the department obtain health and training equipment.

The 3M Plant in Forest City donated funds that allowed the police department to build a drug testing laboratory. The Police Department Lab helps agencies in Winnebago and Hancock County obtain results quickly and accurately enhancing conviction rates related to illegal marijuana use.

A donation from the estate of Lillian Watson, a long time Forest City resident, allowed the police department to modernize our weapons range and build a three vehicle garage. Lillian, a stong supporter of public safety, also left the Forest City Ambulance Service and Forest City Fire Department a donation upon her passing.

With the help of these community oriented businesses, the police department has been able to maintain a high standard of public safety for our community in spite of shrinking budgets.
